23 January 2018 09:15-12:30, Waltham on the Wolds, United Kingdom

This event is for RSC Members only

Introduction
Kathleen Pinfold, Chemistry Laboratory Scientist at the WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition, has kindly offered to host a meeting and tour of the WALTHAM Centre in Leicestershire on the morning of Tuesday the 23rd January 2018, from 09:30 to 12:30. The meeting will include presentations introducing the Mars company, providing an overview of pet nutrition and an insight into the types of chemistry involved in the current and historic activities at the WALTHAM Centre. Following the presentations, attendees are invited to attend a tour of the facility which will last approximately 1.5 hours and will involve standing/walking for most of this time. The tour route can be adapted to suit mobility needs and attendees can choose to meet some of the friendly resident pet animals. Attendees can be provided with laboratory coats to protect clothing from muddy paws, if necessary. No other personal protective equipment is required for this visit although wearing footwear which is suitable for walking/standing during the tour is recommended.
As noted on the website, https://www.waltham.com :
‘The WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition has been advancing the frontiers of research into the nutrition and health of pets for over 50 years. Located in Leicestershire, England, scientists in the institute's state of the art laboratories and animal facilities focus on the nutritional and behavioural needs of pets and their benefits to humans. This knowledge is applied to develop innovative products which meet these needs in a practical way. In collaboration with the world’s foremost scientific institutes, WALTHAM has pioneered many important breakthroughs in the field and leverages this knowledge through Mars Petcare brands to make a better world for pets.’
The WALTHAM Centre for Pet Nutrition is located near to Waltham on the Wolds in the Leicestershire countryside (near to Melton Mowbray). There is parking available on-site, including disabled parking. If you require disabled parking or a spot near to the main entrance to be reserved for you please me know when you register for the event. The site is difficult to get to using public transport as there is a country lane to walk down with no paths.
