Drugs in Sport - with Professor David Mottram

15 January 2019 19:00-20:00, Lancaster, United Kingdom

Introduction
David Mottram is Emeritus Professor of Pharmacy at Liverpool John Moores University. Since 1985 he has specialised in the subject of doping in sport and has also been involved in the development and delivery of medical services at major sporting events, including the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Rio 2016. He is currently designing and delivering online education programmes for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).  David is the editor of the book “Drugs in Sport”, first published in 1988 and is now in its seventh edition.
His talk, this evening, on the use of drugs in sport, is an issue that all too frequently captures the attention of the international media. He will explore the circumstances through which athletes may take drugs, with particular emphasis on doping. The international regulation of doping will be outlined, including the procedures for testing and sanctioning of offenders. Finally, he will speculate on the extent of doping in sport and what the future may hold.
