The biofuels sector has seen rapid growth over the last five years characterised by expansion in both the European biodiesel market and the US bioethanol market, together with the emergence of new technologies such as those for biobutanol production. To meet the European biofuels usage targets (10% road biofuels by 2020) progress must continue across the sector, to overcome the technical, regulatory and socio-economic challenges which remain.
