Fuel cells promise high efficiency conversion of chemical energy into electrical power. They are a key technology in a future (carbon free) Hydrogen Economy. There are numerous different types of fuel cells with low temperature fuel cells being developed for automotive and portable electronic applications. This presentation will introduce fuel cells and will discuss the latest state-of-the-art for fuel cells containing polymer electrolytes. This will include an introduction to the world leading research into alkaline anion-exchange membrane fuel cells being conducted at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Surrey
