However, modern police forces rely on evidence provided by sophisticated forensic analysis of crime scenes. Chemists can analyse substances and marks, such as fingerprints, left at crime scenes to provide crucial pieces of the jigsaw needed to solve a crime. Advances in the techniques and technologies used by these chemists also provide new types of evidence from previously unusable sources with the aim of preventing a lifestyle of crime.
