Dr John C Wright obituary

John Christopher Wright died peacefully on 15th February 2025, aged 87, at Juniper House Care Home after a short illness. He is survived by three sons, Ian, Malcolm and Neil as well as four grandchildren, Chrisy, Jamie, Thomas and Alice.
John was born in Cleethorpes on June 14th 1937, he was married to Ann for 54 years until she died in 2020. John and Ann married in Cleethorpes in July of 1962, Ian was born in 1964, Malcolm in 1966 and finally, Neil, in 1971.
John completed a degree in Chemistry at Nottingham university in 1958, then went on to obtain a pHd in 1962, partly at Nottingham and partly at Newcastle Universities.
John started work as a chemist at The Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey. Subsequently he moved to London working for the Ordinance Board where he spent the rest of his career. John travelled regularly to Europe and America and spent a lot of years chairing various committees.
After John retired in 1997, he and Ann went on a “round the world” trip, spending time in countries such as America, Australia and New Zealand. After the trip John went back to The Royal Gunpowder Mills, now a tourist attraction, as a volunteer.
Using his practical skills with wood and metal work as well as his chemistry knowledge, he helped renovate exhibits, generate scientific experiments for the entertainment of visiting children and lead parties of visitors around the site.
The funeral will be held at Banbury Crematorium, on 26th March 2025.
