LAUNCH EVENT for Nottingham Fluids and Particles Research

26 November 2008, Nottingham, United Kingdom

Introduction
www.nfpr.org.uk
Launch event followed by a lecture:
"Challenges in Particle Technology”
a talk by
Prof. M. Ghadiri, University of Leeds
Manufacturing of products involving particulate solids is adversely
affected by operational difficulties to the extent that full production
capacity is not easily achieved for new plants and the commissioning
time takes over six months than the corresponding liquid processing
operations. To address this problem in a generic way a combination of
characterisation and modelling approaches is required covering the full
length scale from a molecular level to large scale powder
manufacturing, with challenges lying at the scale boundaries, i.e. linking
the length scales. This approach provides a better understanding of
effects of process scale-up on the product characteristics and could lead
to product design with desirable characteristics with lower cost.
