The Chemistry Communicators Challenge 2023

Introduction

The themed talks are divided into two sections: 

1. Chemistry as part of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, e.g. clean water and sanitation, innovation in chemical production, net zero energy, etc. Participants in this section should specifically reference the SDG(s) their talk highlights in their abstract
2. Chemistry in our everyday lives – Explaining the chemistry behind an object/devise/principle we all know of or use in our everyday lives.
 
Each speaker is given 10 minutes to present their topic with or without a PowerPoint presentation (no other visual aids permitted).  
 
Prizes to be won: £200 for the winner in each section & Â£150 for the speaker deemed the most entertaining.
 
Light refreshments will be provided to all who attend.
 
To apply: Please submit an abstract of your talk, in no more than 150 words (including 1 diagram if you choose), by midnight of the 1st of February. Please indicate which themed talk you are applying for by including the theme in your title. 
 
Terms & Conditions:
 
  1. Applications that are not submitted by the deadline will not be considered for the event.
  2. Applications that do not meet the criteria for submission will not be considered.
  3. The organising committee, as well as the judge’s decision, are final in terms of submission and prize winners.
  4. Depending on interest and attendance, themed topics may be merged on the day to include as many speakers as possible.
  5. Pre-registration to attend the challenge as part of the audience is required for unsuccessful applicants.
  6. Applicants and RSC members will be given priority as numbers are limited. How to become an RSC member can be found using the link on this page.
