Introduction
The Radiochemistry Group are pleased to announce that the biennial New Researchers Meeting will be back to a face-to-face format for 2023. The meeting is planned to take place on the 20th-21st July in Sheffield.

New Researchers in academia and industry are invited to present their current research work in any area of radiochemistry in oral format at the meeting, either in a flash talk (3-minute talk plus 2 minutes for questions) or a full presentation (15-minute presentation plus 5 minutes for questions). Current research topics include, but are not limited to:
  • Radiochemical analysis
  • Nuclear medicine (therapy and imaging)
  • Environmental radiochemistry
  • Geological disposal
  • Materials performance
  • Underpinning chemistry and activities in the nuclear fuel cycle
  • Decommissioning activities
  • Remote sensing and robotics
  • Theory and computational modelling
As always, the best presentation at the meeting (judged by the Radiochemistry Group Committee), will win the prestigious New Researchers Award. The award winner will receive a cash prize of Â£150 and the honour of having their name added to those of previous recipients on the coveted trophy, a bust of Marie Curie. The winner also receives funding from the RSC Radiochemistry Group to present their research at an international scientific conference in the future. To be eligible for the award, you must present a full 15-minute talk and be a full or part-time PhD student.

Useful advice for presenters

Preparing for your presentation:
  • Make it relevant! Make your audience care about your research by showing how it makes an impact.
  • Perfect the timing of your talk. Practice, practice, practice!
  • Project your voice and command the space.
What is a flash talk? A flash talk is a very short presentation lasting only three minutes where you present an introduction to your work in a manner understandable to those outside your immediate field. A single, static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations or movement are allowed.

How to prepare your flash talk:
  • A single, static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations or movement are allowed. The single slide upload must be a PDF file at highest resolution possible.
  • The slide will be presented from the beginning of the talk
  • No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video) or props are allowed
  • The aspect ratio (ratio of width to height) should ideally be set to '16:9'
  • Fonts should be sans-serif (e.g., Arial, Helvetica, etc.) with a minimum font size that should not be smaller than
  • 18pt for in-person presentation with screen projection in the conference room.
  • Make appropriate use of white space to avoid crowding and unnecessary detail.
