The second RSC Chemistry Biology Interface Community (CBIC) Leadership Retreat for early career researchers aims to bring together newly-appointed academic group leaders and early-career industry professionals from the UK and associated international chemical societies to network, discuss their independent research and meet with senior leaders in the field to develop their leadership skills.
The meeting aims to:
The programme will consist of three days focussed on research, leadership and collaboration. Leadership training will be provided by Scafell Coaching Ltd. Further details are to follow.
Day 1: Introductions, research presentations, round-table discussion. Plenary lecture (Prof. Ed Tate, Imperial College London).
Day 2: Leadership coaching. Fireside chats with research leaders. Plenary lecture (Dr Ania Fryszkowska, Merck, USA).
Day 3: Emerging innovations in chemical biology, chalk-talk presentations.
Registrations are welcomed from early career lecturers, research fellows and industry scientists within 5 years of their initial appointment (full time equivalent excluding any relevant career breaks). Registration will open soon.
The deadline for applications will be 1st July 2025.
The cost of attending the retreat is £400 per delegate (£500 for industry delegates) and includes two nights of accommodation near to the conference venue in South Kensington and all meals.
Attendance bursaries are available to support four attendees, kindly sponsored by the RSC Carbohydrate and Nucleic Acid interest groups (two delegates from each of these subject areas).
The meeting aims to:
- Enable recently appointed researchers to build UK-wide and international networks and connections, and to link with senior members of the community.
- Provide advice, training and peer-to-peer support on soft skills and challenges relevant for this career stage.
- Build awareness of research across the breadth of the chemistry-biology interface, and provide opportunities for general discussions about the field with senior research leaders (e.g. future research directions, challenges and opportunities across the field).
- Provide a forum for CBIC early career researchers to present their independent research.
